Help and how-tos

How to use every almawqii map tool: drawing, measurements, projections, imports and exports, elevations, contour lines and satellite captures.

Start in three moves

  1. 1Choose your zone in the projection selector — it defines the grid X, Y. The “X · Y” button opens the panel that fills the plane coordinates of the reference point.
  2. 2Draw a point, a line or a polygon with the left toolbar.
  3. 3Export to DXF, KML, Shapefile, GeoJSON, TXT or CSV — or copy coordinates from the point popup.

Distances and areas

Distances and areas are computed in the active projection grid, never in degrees — that is the professional convention. Area is shown in m² and then broken into hectares, ares and centiares.

Choosing the right projection

Four Merchich zones cover Morocco; Carte adds Algeria, Tunisia, Lambert-93, CC42 to CC50, the NTF Lambert I to IV, UTM 28 to 32 N and Qatar — 32 systems, each with its EPSG code. A wrong zone puts a point tens of kilometres away: check against a known point, or test it in the converter.

Just a conversion? Convert GPS to Lambert

Exchange formats

DXF (POINT, LINE, LWPOLYLINE, POLYLINE, ARC, CIRCLE, ELLIPSE, SPLINE, SOLID — INSERT blocks are not resolved), KML and KMZ, GeoJSON, Shapefile (.shp or .zip, coordinates assumed WGS84 on import), TXT and CSV “X Y Z”. On export, tick what should leave: surveyed points, lines, polygons, scattered points and contour lines.

Zone and X / Y coordinates

The map’s “X · Y” button calculates plane coordinates in the selected zone from the last point, map centre or cursor. You can also edit X and Y: enter metres and add the point to your drawing. Copy the values as two spreadsheet columns; a country check warns when the point lies outside the selected zone.

Elevations and contours

Z values come from the SRTM 30 m model, fetched as tiles from your browser. Accuracy is indicative: for regulatory levelling use a level or RTK GNSS. The “long profile” plots the altitude along a line and exports as its own DXF (X = cumulative distance, Y = true altitude).

Contour lines and terrain model in DXF

Long profile

Draw a line, open “Long profile”: the terrain is sampled every 2 to 100 m, the drop and the average slope are shown, and the chart exports as its own DXF or as a CSV.

Access and quota

Carte works without an account, but nothing is saved: reloading the page wipes the drawing. A free, verified account saves 3 projects to the cloud, opens MawCAD and unlocks Carte's advanced tools (contours, import/export, satellite capture).

Subscriber plan

A subscriber account receives higher project, payload and feature limits. Online payment is not wired yet; the plan is activated manually on request.

Privacy

Without an account nothing is kept — not on a server, not in the browser: the drawing goes with the page. With an account, your projects are saved in your own space, for you alone. The live position is read by the browser and never sent. The only other outgoing requests are basemap tiles, place search (Nominatim) and SRTM elevation tiles.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an account or a subscription?

To try Carte, no: drawing, measuring, projections and the live position are open, but nothing is saved. A free account keeps your projects and opens MawCAD; the subscription only matters beyond the limits.

Can I work without an internet connection?

Drawing, measuring and exports work offline once the page has loaded. Basemaps, search and elevations need the network.

Are my drawings saved if I close the page?

With an account, yes: every change is saved automatically in the open project, in the cloud. Without one, no: closing or reloading the page wipes the drawing. Export a DXF or a GeoJSON for long-term archiving.

Does the tool replace desktop software?

It covers field computation, quick checks and format exchange. For heavy cartographic production, hand over to QGIS, AutoCAD or Covadis.
